Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the state budget for financial year 2025-26 before the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, within months of assuming office. In her first budget, the Delhi CM announced an ambitious Rs 1 lakh-crore outlay, marking a 31.5% increase from the previous budget.

The Budget focuses on ten key areas, including electricity, roads, water, and connectivity.

As per the budget, Delhi government has doubled capital expenditure outlay to Rs 28,000 crore to bolster roads, sewer systems and water supply infrastructure of the national capital.

Highlights Of The Delhi Budget 2025

  • Healthcare Investments: Delhi government has allocated Rs 6,874 crore for the healthcare sector. This includes the allocation for the PM Jan Arogya Yojana for access to healthcare facilities for the underprivileged and expanding medical infrastructure across the city.

  • Women Empowerment: A major welfare initiative includes a Rs 5,100-crore allocation to provide Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women in Delhi, a scheme aimed at financial empowerment and economic independence.

  • Public Transport and Connectivity: With an emphasis on improving connectivity in Delhi-NCR, the budget has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore for expanding public transport and infrastructure projects to ease congestion and enhance commuter convenience.

  • Slum Development and Urban Renewal: To uplift marginalised communities, the government has set aside Rs 696 crore for the development of slum clusters, improving sanitation, housing and basic amenities for residents.

  • Food Security Initiatives: The budget introduces 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi, with an allocation of Rs 100 crore, ensuring access to affordable and nutritious meals for low-income groups.

  • Education And Skill Development: The Delhi CM announced Rs 100 crore for ‘CM Shri schools’ to open across the national capital on the lines of PM Shri schools. Gupta proposed Rs 750 crore to offer free laptops to 1,200 students who pass Class 10. Another Rs 21 crore has been announced for setting up language labs, whereas an allocation of Rs 230 crore has been made for skill development initiatives.

  • Women’s Safety: The government plans to install 50,000 CCTV cameras across the city, reinforcing its commitment to improving women’s safety and public security.

  • Water Supply And Sanitation: The Delhi budget sets aside Rs 9,000 crore to modernise water infrastructure in the national capital to reduce shortages and improve sewage treatment. Rekha Gupta also announced Rs 500 crore for a decentralised sewage plant to ensure no sewage water goes into the Yamuna River.
