Total number of Indians vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus rose to 2.24 lakh on Sunday evening, according to a press briefing by Manohar Agnani, additional secretary for the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

A 46-year-old health worker died here a day after receiving the coronavirus vaccination, officials said on Monday.

While Mahipal's family is blaming the death on vaccination, the authorities said that he suffered from a cardiac disease. According to sources, he was working as a ward boy in the surgical ward of the Moradabad government hospital. He was vaccinated on Saturday and was not feeling well, they said.

Mahipal's son Vishal said his father called him to hospital as he was suffering from laboured breathing.

"My father had a cough but after the vaccination he was suffering from fever and laboured breathing. On Sunday, he was admitted to the government hospital where he died at night," Vishal said.

Chief Medical Officer Milind Chander Garg cited a postmortem report and said that the cause of death was cardiac disease.

The CMO said that some employees were suffering from fever after the vaccination but denied reports of any other side effects.

After administering shots to over 4,300 healthcare workers on the opening day, Covid-19 vaccination teams across the national capital started to give vaccines to more medical staff at various hospitals on Monday.

Officials said that the vaccination drive started at the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital at 10 a.m.

The immunisation drive in Delhi was formally kicked off on Saturday by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the LNJP Hospital, the state-run facility which offered yeoman service during the pandemic last year.

  • One is under observation in AIIMS Rishikesh.
  • Majority of the adverse events following immunization are minor in nature and may include, pain, mild swelling at injection site, mild fever, body ache, nausea, giddiness, and mild allergic reactions like rashes, etc.
  • AEFI may or may not be related to vaccine or vaccination process.
