Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the state government has decided to impose fine of Rs 500 on people who violate the Covid-19 safety protocols which include social distancing, wearing of mask, not spitting in public places.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in the state is 142. Of these 95 are active as 45 people have recovered from the disease and two have died.
"For first time violators, a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed and this will be increased to Rs 1,000 for repeated offence. We need to ensure people take the protocols seriously. These are simple rules which will help you to protect your family," he said on Thursday.
On the number of BSF personnel in the state getting infected, the chief minister said whatever is happening is within the BSF camp and it is in a controlled manner.
He said the restrictions on inter-state movement does not include citizens of the state who are stranded outside and government employees including paramilitary forces who are coming back.
The Supreme Court Friday refused to entertain a plea by parents from different states seeking deferment/moratorium on school fees for the Covid-19 lockdown period and asked them to approach the high courts for relief.
The top court said it was a fact-intensive situation as problems in each state are different and observed that it would a stroke of genius if petitioners can solve everybody's problems.
A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justices R Subhash Reddy and AS Bopanna said: Fee hike issue should have been raised before the state High Courts. Why has it come to the Supreme Court? It's a fact intensive situation.
"Problems in each state are different. Parties are involving jurisdiction of this court as an omnibus case. But these are fact intensive situations in each state and even each district.
Advocates Balaji Srinivasan and Mayank Kshirsagar said the Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed schools to charge hiked fee. The bench told the counsels, then the petitioners can file an appeal against that order of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
It would be a stroke of genius if you can solve everybody's problems, the bench said.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said he would work from home as a precautionary measure after some of the staff in his office- cum-residence here tested positive for coronavirus.
In a statement, Yediyurappa said, "I am going to discharge my duties from home from today for the next few days in view of some of the staff in the office-cum-residence Krishna testing positive for coronavirus."
He said he would give necessary directions and suggestions online. Noting that he was healthy, Yediyurappa appealed to the people not to panic.
