Australia’s Queensland state will lift the three-day lockdown in Brisbane after recording zero new coronavirus cases overnight, keeping in place some restrictions at shops and restaurants as well as public indoor mask requirements. South Korea reported the smallest rise in infections in six weeks. In the U.S., new cases fell for a second day in New York state, easing from a record.
Global confirmed virus cases topped 90 million, while more than 25 million vaccine shots have been administered worldwide.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday said that despite having limited resources, India is in a better position than many developed countries dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Several states on Sunday said they have made all necessary preparations for the first phase of the inoculation exercise, including identification of vaccination sites and registration of healthcare and other frontline workers. The nation-wide roll out is scheduled for Jan. 16.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said her government is making arrangements to provide free Covid vaccines to all the people of the state.
