India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 94-lakh mark even as new case additions dropped below the 40,000-mark for the first time in six days.

India reported 38,772 new cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 94.31 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. That includes 88.47 lakh recoveries and more than 1.37 lakh deaths.

Authorities reported 45,333 recoveries in a day, making it the third straight day that new cases trailed recoveries.

Global Virus Update

Total coronavirus cases across the globe exceeded the 6.25 crore mark, while deaths neared the 15-lakh-mark on Monday morning.

New York City public schools will begin reopening on Dec. 7 despite levels of Covid-19 that re-shuttered schools earlier this month. California cases rose to a record, based on a two-week average, after Los Angeles and San Francisco imposed tighter restrictions. Florida neared 1 million infections.

Vaccines are likely to begin rolling out in the U.S. before the end of December, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams and Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease specialist, said.
