India has administered 1,48,54,136 vaccine shots, with 5.5 lakh of them given to the elderly in the last 24 hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the second phase of inoculations on Monday— where senior citizens and those above the age of 45 with comorbidities will be able to get vaccinated — by taking the first dose of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NCP president Sharad Pawar were among the top leaders who took the jab.
