The WHO approved the vaccine’s use in people aged 18 and older on a two-dose schedule with four weeks between shots, according to a statement on Wednesday.
The Technical Advisory Group, an independent advisory committee of the WHO, had on Oct. 26 sought "additional clarifications" from the company for Covaxin to conduct a final "risk-benefit assessment" for emergency use authorisation of the vaccine.
India's active case load continued on its downward trajectory as fresh cases were dwarfed by daily recoveries for the fourth day in a row.
As many as 11,903 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 3.
That compares with 14,159 recoveries in the same day, taking active cases lower to 1.51 lakh. Active cases account for just 0.44% of India's total Covid tally, also lowest since Feb. 21.
