India's active coronavirus cases fell for fifth straight day even as concerns around the new variant Omicron loom.
As many as 8,439 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Dec. 8. That compares with nearly 9,525 recoveries during the period.
Active cases fell to the lowest since March 2020, the onset of the pandemic, accounting for 0.27% of the country's total tally.
