Zaheerabad tractor plant to reach full capacity in 4 years: M&M

Zaheerabad:

Mahindra and Mahindra's (M&M) new tractor manufacturing facility is expected to reach 100 per cent capacity utilisation in four years, a senior official of the $15.9-billion group said on Wednesday.

"The tractor industry is in downturn. When we started this plant, from that time, the overall industry has gone down and therefore, it is going to take some time to meet 100 per cent capacity," Pavan Goenka, president, automotive and farm equipment sector, M&M said.

"If all goes well, it depends on how the industry performs, with all this, we expect in four years' time, we should make 100,000 tractors from this plant," he said.

"We will be looking at making Swaraj and Mahindra brand tractors at this facility," he added.

The plant has been set up with an investment of Rs 300 crore and it will have an installed capacity of one lakh tractors per annum which can be scaled up to meet additional demand, Mr Goenka said.

M&M currently has tractor manufacturing plants in Mumbai, Nagpur, Rudrapur, Jaipur, Mohali and Rajkot. It also has two plants each in the US and China, and one in Australia.
