Vodafone Idea To Prepare For Phased Rollout Of 5G, Says CEO Akshaya Moondra

Vodafone Idea CEO Akshaya Moondra confirmed the company’s phased 5G rollout while highlighting network expansion, including 46,000 new sites added in 2024 to enhance connectivity.

Vodafone Idea Ltd. on Tuesday announced that the company is preparing for the phased rollout of 5G in India. In a New Year email shared with the customers, the company's Chief Executive Officer, Akshaya Moondra, thanked the customers for making Vi a part of their journey.  "Your trust and unwavering support inspire us to deliver the very best every day," the email further said.

Vodafone Idea is partnering with global leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung, we are driving a transformative three-year investment plan. Moondra further shared that by March 2025, thousands of new sites will enhance Vi customers connectivity, elevating their network experience to extraordinary heights.

The telecom company to launch new, first-of-their-kind tariff plans designed with their consumers in mind. "One can explore these on the Vi app, at myvi.in, or at their nearest Vi store," he said.

In 2024, the company expanded its network by adding over 46,000 new sites. They enhanced the capacity at over 58,000 sites for faster internet.

A lot more of Vodafone Idea's network is now on its indoor coverage plus technology, which significantly boosts indoor coverage and quality whether you are at home, at the office, or at a mall.

As per OpenSignal, the global leader in network testing, Vodafone Idea is recognised as India's best 4G network. "Vi has excelled across all performance metrics of 4G download and upload speeds, 4G video and gaming experiences, and 4G voice app calling performance," the email further said.

The company recently launched cutting-edge SPAM detection solutions to help safeguard its customers and provide a seamless and secure experience

On Dec. 30, the company informed the Government of India that it waived financial bank guarantees for spectrum acquired in past decades. The waiver is applicable for bank guarantees acquired in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2021, which are subject to certain terms and conditions.

Vodafone Idea was trading 2.66% higher at Rs 8.09 apiece as of 2:25 p.m., as compared to a 0.43% advance in the NSE Nifty 50 index.

Out of 22 analysts tracking the company, four maintain a 'buy' rating, five recommend a 'hold,' and 13 suggest 'sell,' according to Bloomberg data. The average 12-month consensus price target implies a downside of 3%.
