(Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp. added about 2.66 million vehicles to a recall due to potentially defective fuel pumps that may cause stalling and increase the risk of crashes, bringing the total number of Toyota and Lexus brands recalled globally this year to about 5.84 million.
The latest move, which affects 42 models including the Camry, expands on recalls announced in January and March as those didn't cover vehicles that should have been included, Toyota spokeswoman Shino Yamada said in an emailed statement Thursday.
This recall covers about 1.67 million vehicles in North America, 400,000 in China and 210,000 in Japan, among other markets, according to Yamada. Toyota said Wednesday that 1.52 million vehicles were added to the recall in the U.S. alone, bringing the total there to 3.34 million.

Toyota began investigating the issue, which affects a range of cars, sport-utility vehicles and trucks, in June 2019 after customers complained about problems including loss of power while driving at low speed, particularly in hotter climates such as the southern U.S.
The fuel pumps were manufactured by affiliated supplier Denso Corp., which Thursday reported earnings that missed analysts' estimates.
Toyota, Honda Motor Co. and Subaru Corp. all face separate lawsuits related to Denso-made fuel pumps.
