Swiggy Genie Goes Offline Across All Cities Citing High System Stress
Genie services were also suspended once in May 2022 for a week across Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, citing a surge in demand.

Swiggy Ltd.'s last-mile delivery service Genie has gone offline across all cities it was previously operational in, with no indication as to when it will be active again.
"Due to higher stress on our systems, the Swiggy Genie services are temporarily unavailable," the company's official support handle on X said when asked about the unavailability of Genie. "For now it's unavailable across all cities. We do not have any timeline for now. Please keep an eye out on the app for further updates," it added.
NDTV Profit has reached out to Swiggy for comments on the story.
Inc42 was the first to report that Genie services were suspended across cities.
Though this is not the first time Swiggy is taking Genie offline — it had done so once in May 2022 for a week across Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, citing a surge in demand — the suspension is much more widespread than just three cities.
To put this into perspective, Genie services were available across nearly 70 cities including Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. As of May 2, Swiggy claimed that it "continually incubates and integrates new services like Swiggy Dineout and Swiggy Genie into its multi-service app."
As of Dec. 31, platform innovations, which include Swiggy's business verticals like private brands, Genie and Insanely Good, contributed almost Rs 23 crore to the company's topline, making a total of 0.6% of the total third quarter revenue.
Genie's suspension, temporary as of now, comes days after Zomato parent Eternal announced the closure of its Quick and Everyday services. Notably, these Zomato services went offline just before the company's fourth quarter earnings, following which CEO Deepinder Goyal confirmed the news and explained the rationale — lack of demand.
Swiggy's March quarter earnings are scheduled for May 9.
Recently, Swiggy expanded Bolt, its quick-service food delivery service, to over 500 cities.
