Sufficient coal stock with coal companies is available, said the Coal Ministry.

Coal production by Coal India Ltd (CIL) has increased by over a quarter (27.2 per cent) in April 2022 compared to the same period of last year, and coal despatch has increased by 5.8 per cent, said the Coal Ministry.

The coal stock at CIL is 56.7 million tonnes (MT) that at The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is 4.3 MT and at captive coal blocks are about 2.3 MT. Thus, sufficient coal stock with coal companies is available, said the Ministry.

The coal stock at Good Shed sidings, washery sidings, and port is about 4.7 MT and ready to be immediately moved to power plants. Apart from this, around 2 MT coal stock is also available at the CIL sidings.

The coal ministry said that IR (Indian Railways) is fully geared to move this stock to power gencos across the country and is increasing rakes' availability.

CIL has offered 5.75 MT of coal to the State/Central Gencos, and 5.3 MT of this coal has been agreed to be booked by the Gencos. This will help in coal stock buildup at TPPs (Thermal Power Plants), added the Ministry.
