Petrol, Diesel Price Today: Petrol price in Tamil Nadu's capital - Chennai was reduced to Rs 99.47 per litre on Saturday, August 14, a day after the Tamil Nadu government announced a tax cut of Rs 3 on the fuel, according to data by the Indian Oil Corporation. The diesel price in the city remained unchanged at record-high levels and is being sold at Rs 94.39 per litre. On Friday, August 13, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan announced tax cuts while presenting the Revised Budget for 2021-22 to the Assembly.

However, the fuel rates remained unchanged for the 28th consecutive day in the other metro cities of the country. In the national capital, petrol prices were steady at Rs 101.84 per litre and diesel rates were unchanged at Rs 89.87 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol prices stood at Rs 107.83 per litre, while diesel is retailed at Rs 97.45 per litre. (Also Read: How To Check Latest Petrol And Diesel Rates In Your City). 

Among the four metro cities, petrol and diesel prices are the highest in Mumbai, according to the state-run oil refiner. Fuel rates vary across the states due to value-added tax (VAT).

State-run oil refiners such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel rates on a daily basis, considering the crude oil prices in international markets and the rupee-dollar exchange rates. Any changes in petrol, diesel prices are implemented with effect from 6 am each day. 

On Friday, August 13, Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.13 per cent to $ 71.22 per barrel. The rupee reversed its intra-day losses and settled almost flat to 72.24 against the US dollar tracking the rally in domestic equities.
