New Delhi: Nearly one-third allottees of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats under Housing Scheme 2014 have surrendered their flats, the Urban Development Ministry said on Thursday.

Among the reasons provided for surrender of the flats were that allottees did not like the location or flats or did not find the built-up area sufficient, Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo told the Rajya Sabha.

In a written reply to a question in the House, Supriyo said the DDA has informed that as on November 27, 2015, nearly 8,400 allottees, who were allotted flats under Housing Scheme 2014 have surrendered their flats.

The DDA had in September last year rolled out nearly 25,000 flats via a lottery system in suburban areas including Dwarka, Rohini and Narela.

The development agency, however, has informed that it did not receive any complaint of poor construction or quality, he added.

In majority of cases, the reasons for surrender have not been provided, the minister said.

Replying to another question, Supriyo said the DDA had received a request from Directorate of Education of Delhi Government for allotment of land for a Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Aali village of Okhla Assembly constituency.
