Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. on Thursday launched a new Bharat Stage VI-compliant motorcycle to replace its best-selling CB Shine SP.

The Honda SP 125 will retail at Rs 72,900, ex-showroom Delhi. The two-wheeler maker will continue selling the BS-IV variant of CB Shine till BS-VI emission norms kick in on April 1, 2020.

The new model is around 11 percent costlier than the outgoing model but, according to the company, delivers 16 percent better fuel-efficiency.

HMSI at present has 39 percent market share in the 125 cc motorcycle segment, said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president (sales and marketing) at the two-wheeler maker at the launch of the Honda SP 125. The company has already sold 80 lakh 125 cc motorcycles in India so far, he added.

"The production of the SP 125 has begun and the model would start arriving at the dealerships by the end of this month," Guleria said.

HMSI witnessed double-digit sales growth in the festive season, he said, which brought down the company's inventory level to less than a month.

On the prolonged auto slowdown in India, Guleria said HMSI doesn't anticipate any change in market dynamics for at least the next 3-4 months due to various macro economic factors. But the company is on schedule to launch BS-VI models, he added.
