Indian two-wheeler manufacturers saw mixed sales performance for the month of September. Hero Motocorp continued its strong performance on the back of a new launch. TVS Motor too witnessed a significant increase in sales despite a slowdown in exports and three-wheeler sales. On the flip side, Bajaj Auto continued to feel the heat as exports dragged sales lower for the second straight month.

Hero MotoCorp: Highest Ever Monthly Sales

Hero MotoCorp Ltd. clocked its highest ever monthly sales, selling 6.7 lakh units in September.

Sales grew 11 percent from 6.1 lakh units in September 2015, the company said in its press release. The performance surpassed its previous sales record of 6.4 lakh units clocked in October 2015.

Growth momentum was supported by the launch of Splendor iSmart 110 and the continued popularity of its bestselling 125 cc motorcycle, Glamour, the company added.

Exports Drag Bajaj Auto Sales

Bajaj Auto Ltd.’s sales dropped for the fourth straight month in September as its performance in the international markets continued to decline.

Total sales fell 2.1 percent to 3.76 lakh vehicles from 3.84 lakh in September 2015, the company said in an exchange filing.

Motorcycle sales remained sluggish, growing one percent to 3.31 lakh units. Commercial vehicle sales fell 17 percent to 44,789 units compared to 54,172 units.

TVS Motor Sales Rise despite production issues

TVS Motor Company Ltd. reported a 26 percent jump in sales in the month of September despite a production disruption.

TVS sold 2.93 lakh vehicles compared to 2.32 lakh units in September 2015, according to the company’s exchange filing. “Supply chain disruption” caused the loss of 25,000 units in production, the company added.

Sales of motorcycles jumped 35.9 percent to 1.22 lakh, while sales of scooters grew 12.7 percent to 75,307, pushing total sales of two-wheelers higher by 30.1 percent to 2.87 lakh.
