HDFC Bank Ltd.'s mobile banking application faced issues once again on Tuesday as customers complained about not able to log in to their accounts. The problem was resolved by mid-day.
The instance follows a string of occurrences in the last two years when the bank's digital banking services have gone on the blink due to technical difficulties.
In an error message on the application, the bank said it is facing some issues and that it was being looked at on priority. “Request you to please use netbanking to complete your transaction,” the error message read.

A spokesperson for HDFC Bank said that the problems had been resolved by Tuesday afternoon.

The bank had last reported technical difficulties in March, when some of its customers were unable to log in to their banking accounts.
At the time, HDFC Bank Chief Executive Officer Sashidhar Jagdishan had said it was because of a hardware issue in its servers. Before that the bank's digital banking services took a hit in November 2020 due to power failure at its data centre in Mumbai and in December 2019 due to a problematic rollout of the new mobile banking application.
Due to repeated technical glitches at HDFC Bank, the Reserve Bank of India had imposed strictures on the bank in December 2020. Under these strictures, the bank was barred from issuing fresh credit cards and launching any new digital initiatives. The regulator had also ordered a third-party audit of the bank's IT infrastructure, where a report has been submitted to the RBI. The report will determine further course of action for the central bank.
On June 9, BloombergQuint had reported on HDFC Bank's plans to spruce up its digital offerings and upgrade its IT infrastructure to avoid future glitches.
