HCL Technologies Ltd. has been selected by Swedish carmaker Volvo Car AB as one of the suppliers for IT services and its digital transformation programme.

"The engagement is an expansion of a collaboration that began in 2016 and will see HCL support the global premium car company in its ongoing digital transformation initiatives," the Noida-based company said in a statement.

This large-scale transformation programme includes organisation-wide technology shifts that will help Volvo Cars to capitalise on new opportunities to improve internal business processes and customer experiences, it added.

The collaboration between the two organisations is expanding to incorporate several aspects of digital transformation, including product orientation, application integration and DevOps, the statement said. DevOps refers to processes that combine software development and IT operations to shorten the systems development lifecycle.

Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

"HCL is looking forward to help Volvo Cars achieve its digital transformation ambitions by leveraging industry-leading service capabilities and automotive domain expertise," said Pankaj Tagra, executive vice president and head (Nordic and DACH—Germany, Austria and Switzerland) at HCL Technologies.

On Thursday, shares of HCL Technologies fell 1.04 percent to Rs 1,089.45 apiece on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex gained 1.17 percent to end the day at 39,052.06 points.
