The campus hiring season is on. And here are the early indicators on the salaries being offered to the students who will pass out soon.

The starting salary (median) offered to MBA students passing out from Tier- 1 institutes is four times that of what their peers in Tier-2 colleges are getting, says a report from HR consulting firm Willis Towers Watson.

The report is based on a survey which polled 70 of India's top organisations and HR leaders across different sectors. Willis Towers Watson conducted the survey to gauge campus hiring trends and differentiation of compensation across college tiers for different degrees such as BTech, MTech, MBA and other graduates (BA, BCom, BSc and BBA).

According to the survey, MBA students in Tier-1 colleges are getting annual median salary (fixed pay plus variable) offers of Rs 18.62 lakh vs Rs 8.5 lakh in Tier-2 and Rs 4.4 lakh in Tier-3 institutes.

The salary gap for engineering students based on tiers of colleges also remains similar to that of MBA students.

BTech students from Tier-1 colleges are being offered median pay of Rs 13.6 lakh while those from Tier-2 are getting Rs 7 lakh and and Tier-3 Rs 4.47 lakh.
