Bharti Airtel Ltd.'s spam report has revealed that customers in Delhi have been at the receiving end of the highest number of spam calls since the launch of its artificial intelligence-powered spam-fighting solution.

The report, which analysed data collected over the past two and a half months, highlights that Delhi leads the list of regions targeted by spam callers, followed by Andhra Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi is not only the top recipient of spam calls but also a major origin point for these disturbances. It is followed by Mumbai and Karnataka in terms of spam-call origination, according to a press release on Monday.

The spam solution, which has flagged 8 billion spam calls during this period, identified that 6% of all calls on the Airtel network were spam. It has also alerted 252 million unique customers to these suspicious calls and observed that there has been a 12% decline in the number of customers answering them.

Men Bear The Brunt Of Spam Calls

The analysis found that male customers are disproportionately targeted by spam callers, so much so that three in four (76%) spam calls are targeted at men.

By age group, individuals aged 36 to 60 were the most-affected, receiving 48% of the calls, while customers aged 26 to 35 were the second-most targeted, with 26% of the total spam calls. Senior citizens were relatively spared, with only 8% of the spam calls landing on their phones.

Airtel's spam-fighting system, driven by advanced AI algorithms, has flagged these calls in real time. The report also noted the hourly distribution of spam calls, which begin to increase from 9 a.m. and peak between noon and 3 p.m., marking the highest concentration of such activity.

A significant disparity is also noted between weekdays and weekends, with spam call volume dropping by approximately 40% on Sundays. Devices priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 are disproportionately targeted, receiving about 22% of all spam calls.
