Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. has recorded the highest-ever cargo shipments in a quarter, as volume surged amid an ebbing pandemic.
Cargo shipments rose 8% year-on-year to 90.89 million tonnes in April-June of 2022-23, according to a statement on Monday. In June, the Adani Group firm handled the highest-ever monthly cargo of 31.88 million -- a 12% growth over the year ago. "This also marks the highest-ever cargo handled in a quarter at 90.89 MMT (million tonne) during Q1 FY23, which is 16% q-o-q growth, and 8% y-o-y growth over a strong Q1 FY22 that saw the post-covid volume surge," the statement read.
Coal volumes rose 25% year-on-year while other key segments -- including crude and containers -- witnessed a monthly growth of 17% and 6%, respectively, according to the statement.
A bulk of the shipments was handled by Adani's ports in Mundra, Hazira, Kattupalli-Ennore and Dahej.
Adani Ports is the largest commercial ports operator in India -- accounting for nearly one-fourth of the cargo movement in the country. It has 13 ports in seven states.
