New Delhi: Cement maker ACC on Wednesday said its new 2.79 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) clinker plant at Jamul, Chhattisgarh has started commercial production, a move aimed at strengthening consumer base in East India.

"We are pleased to announce commencement of commercial production from our new state-of-the-art 2.79 MTPA clinker facility at Jamul, located in Chhattisgarh with effect from July 19," it said in a regulatory filing.

Two new cement grinding facilities, one each at Jamul and Sindri in Jharkhand, which form part of this integrated project, are expected to be commissioned in September quarter of 2016, it added.

"This project will facilitate the company in serving our expanding customer base in the fast-growing market in East India, offering premium products...," the firm said.

ACC, part of the Swiss cement giant LafargeHolcim, has 17 cement factories and around 50 ready mixed concrete plants, across India.

Shares in ACC, on Wednesday, ended 1.85 per cent higher at Rs 1,633.50 apiece on the BSE, whose benchmark Sensex index finished up 0.46 per cent.
