Abbott Laboratories won approval for its antibody test for Covid-19 from public health bodies in England and Wales.
As many as 5 million tests can be provided to the U.K. each month with immediate effect, the company said in a statement. Abbott has already started shipping the product to National Health Service laboratories.
- U.K. test demonstrated a specificity of between 99.73% to 100%, according to the statement.
- Test identifies a protein that the body produces in the late stages of infection and may remain for months or even years after recovery.
- Roche Holding AG's antibody test was cleared by U.K. health authorities earlier this month.
