India's EV Space Heats Up: How Tesla Model Y Compares With VinFast VF6, VF7, Kia Carens Clavis EV

The growing interest comes as EV adoption in the passenger car segment grew 4.4% in June 2025, from 2.5% last year, on account of government subsidies.

India’s electric vehicle space is heating up as Tesla, VinFast, and Kia gear up to launch new models and begin pre-bookings. Tesla will showcase the Model Y, VinFast will debut the VF6 and VF7, and Kia will roll out the Carens Clavis EV.

The growing interest comes as EV adoption in the passenger car segment grew 4.4% in June 2025, from 2.5% last year, on account of government subsidies, as per the latest FADA numbers.

Tesla is to make its debut in India with its top-selling electric SUV car, Model Y. The vehicle comes in a sleek, dark-grey shade with sporty black alloy wheels. Its signature coupe-like sloping roofline and clean, aerodynamic silhouette set it apart from traditional SUVs. All four wheels are reportedly equipped with disc brakes.

The brand's popular car comes with an updated wheel and tire package that offers a smoother driving experience. Its redesigned body castings reduce parts from 70 to 1 for fewer gaps, as per the company release.

The car also comes with an upgraded, ultra-responsive 15.4-inch touchscreen that sits at the centre of your driving experience, and an 8-inch touchscreen gives access to second-row passengers.

The SUV also includes Tesla’s signature tech features, such as internet connectivity, wireless charging, multiple USB-C ports, voice-activated controls, and app-based vehicle access.

The Tesla Model Y is offered in RWD and AWD powertrain options. The long-range AWD version of the vehicle offers a range of 530 km on a single charge using a 75 kWh battery pack.

VinFast's VF6 and VF7

Vietnamese brand Vinfast will also begin the initiation of the pre-booking process for Vinfast VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs today. These are the first two models of the brand in the country and are expected to be launched soon.

The VF6 embodies sleek elegance and smart efficiency.

Kia's Carens Clavis EV

Kia, the South Korean giant, is set to launch its first seven-seater electric vehicle in the form of the Carens Clavis EV. This vehicle is the electric powertrain version of the recently launched affordable MPV of the brand.

The car shares its design details with its ICE counterpart and is expected to come loaded with similar features and more, as per the NDTV report. The powertrain details of the electric MPV have not been completely revealed yet.
