The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex extended gains to second session tracking gains in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. The indices gained as much as 1.08% and 1.10% as investors rejoiced the GST rate cuts. GST Council reduced the rate structure to two slabs from four which will induce consumption in the economy. Eicher Motors hit a record high. Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, TVS Motor Co., and Maruti Suzuki India surged as the NSE Nifty Auto hit one-year high.

Indian exporters said they will lobby the central bank to allow them to temporarily convert proceeds from their US business at a rupee rate that’s 15% lower than current levels, to help cushion the blow from President Donald Trump’s punitive tariffs.
