Windows 11 Insider Preview Update Brings Speech Recap, Improved Copilot, Other Features; Details Here
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5160 (KB5053654) for Beta Channel users (Source: Microsoft)

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5160 (KB5053654) for Beta Channel users. This update brings new features, improvements and fixes. Users can also choose to upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2 in the beta channel.

According to the Windows Insider Blog, the update has introduced a new feature called Speech Recap in the Narrator. It helps users keep track of what the narrator has spoken without having to redo tasks. The feature aims to improve accessibility and make it easier to follow spoken content.

What's Speech Recap On Windows?

With Speech Recap, users can see what the narrator has spoken in real time. It allows quick access to previously spoken content without having to repeat actions. Users can also copy the last spoken phrase instantly using a shortcut. Additionally, the speech recap keeps the history of up to 500 spoken phrases for easy reference.

To make Speech Recap easy to use Microsoft has added new keyboard shortcuts;

  1. Narrator Key + Alt + X – Open the Speech Recap window.

  2. Narrator Key + Control + X – Copy the last spoken phrase.

  3. Narrator Key + X – Repeat the last spoken phrase.

  4. Control + Windows Key + Enter – Turn Narrator on or off.

This Speech Recap feature is useful for recalling hints, copying error codes or saving the narrator speech for training materials.

Windows Copilot To Get Better

Further, Microsoft is making it easier to access Copilot on Windows with simple shortcuts. Now, users can launch Copilot instantly by pressing win+C. Users, who have a Copilot key on your keyboard, can customise its function under Settings > Personalization > Text input.

A new Press to Talk feature on the Windows allows users to interact with Copilot using their voice. Simply press and hold the Copilot key for 2 seconds, or if your PC doesn't have one, press and hold Win + C for 2 seconds. To end the conversation, press the Esc key. If there's a long pause, Copilot will automatically close the conversation, and the microphone icon will disappear from the screen.

Another easy way to activate voice interaction is by holding Alt + Spacebar, allowing for quick and seamless communication with Copilot while staying focused on your tasks. This feature provides instant responses without disrupting your workflow.

The Press to Talk functionality is available in the latest Copilot app update (version 1.25033.139.0 and higher), which is rolling out across Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store.
