WhatsApp is making its Voice Chat feature available to groups of all sizes. The capability, which was previously limited to larger groups, will now allow anyone in a group to start a voice chat.

The feature works similarly to a group call but doesn’t notify or ring each group member separately. Instead, users can join discreetly by seeing an in-chat pop-up message.

WhatsApp Voice Chat For Groups: Here’s What’s New

According to WhatsApp, the update enables all WhatsApp groups to initiate an audio hangout for live voice conversations; at the same time, members can simultaneously send text messages. Without interfering with the existing voice chat, group members are free to join or leave the hangout at any moment.

The voice chat remains pinned to the bottom of your chat so you can quickly access call controls, even as new members can join at any time and see who else is already part of the conversation.

So essentially, whether it is a thrilling game, a season finale, or some important news, you can talk about it with the people in the group who are available, or join in to any discussion that is already going on.

WhatsApp reiterated that voice chats are protected, along with personal calls and messages, with end-to-end encryption by default. As a result, nobody outside of the group will get to know about the topic of the voice chat discussion.
