Meaning after June 14, 2025, offline updates at Aadhaar centres will incur a charge. This marks a significant change, as the current free service on the myAadhaar portal will remain available for the next several months, giving citizens ample time to make necessary changes without additional expenses.
The UIDAI has consistently encouraged citizens, particularly those who received their Aadhaar cards over ten years ago, to review and update their information. Although it is not mandatory to update Aadhaar details, keeping this information accurate is important to ensure smooth access to government services and benefits.
Aadhaar, as a unique identification number, is linked to an individual’s biometrics, making it impossible for anyone to hold duplicate or fraudulent identities. This mechanism plays a crucial role in eliminating fake records, reducing leakages, and ensuring that government benefits reach the intended recipients. By preventing duplication, Aadhaar has become an essential tool in improving the efficiency and transparency of various government schemes.
With the extended deadline for free updates, UIDAI aims to encourage residents to keep their Aadhaar information current, helping enhance the overall effectiveness of India’s digital infrastructure and welfare programs.
