Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has issued a public warning against fake videos circulating online that falsely link her to financial investments and money-making schemes.
In a short clip shared on X, Murty said she was “really concerned and pained” after discovering multiple videos on Facebook in which her image and voice are being misused to promote fraudulent investment offers. In the videos, viewers are allegedly urged to “invest $200 or Rs 20,000 rupees” with promises of returns that are “maybe 10 times more.”

I want to alert you to fake videos circulating online that falsely use my image and voice to promote financial schemes and investments. These are deepfakes created without my knowledge or consent.

Calling the videos fake, Murty clarified that they are deepfakes created without her knowledge or consent. She said such content has already caused financial harm, adding that “many people who I know, they have invested and lost money.”
Murty urged people not to trust any financial transaction or investment advice that appears on social media platforms in her name.
“All these financial transactions, when they come on Facebook, don't believe, it is fake news. You lose your money,” she said.
She added that she has never spoken about investments or promised financial returns. “As a rule, I never talk about investment or do anything with the money. I always talk about work. I talk about India's culture. I talk about women and I talk about education,” she said, reiterating that any such investment-related content attributed to her is false.
Sudha Murty advised people to verify information through official and trusted channels before making any financial decisions. If in doubt, she said people should consult a bank or other authorities, adding, “Go and show that in a bank, they will tell you it's fake.”
Murty also urged people to report such content and avoid falling into what she described as greed-based traps. “Don't lose your hard-earned money,” she said, asking viewers to “save your money, invest wisely.”
She concluded by requesting the public not to believe any financial appeal made in her name, highlighting that such videos are fraudulent and misleading.
Sudha Murty is an Indian writer and social worker, and the former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She is married to N R Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys.
