Reddit Will Police Your Post Even Before You Publish It Now

Reddit has introduced a suite of new tools to streamline user engagement and ensure full compliance with the platform guidelines. If you are a subscriber, then Reddit is looking to play a big role in telling you that your post is set to break its rules - before you have even published. These Reddit features aim to help users select the right communities, adhere to subreddit rules and maximise their participation on the site. Reddit will use the Post Check feature to warn you and the Post Recovery feature, after the offending post was removed, to allow you to make amends.

One of the major additions is the 'Post Check' feature. This enables users to verify if their post might violate a community’s rules before it is published. If potential violations are detected, the feature highlights the problematic sections, allowing users to make adjustments. The tool can be accessed through a wand icon in the post composer's lower right-hand corner.

If you do break Reddit rules and your post breaks rules and is removed by the platform, you will get the option to get rid of that part of the offending content. This is through the 'Post Recovery' function. If a post is removed due to community guidelines, users will now receive a prompt offering the option to repost the content in an alternative and recommended subreddit. This aims to reduce frustration among users whose posts are taken down and help them find a more suitable platform for their content.

Another major addition is the ‘Community Suggestions’ tool. In a blog post, Reddit stated, “When creating a post, we’ll suggest relevant communities based on the content, making it easier to find the right audience.”

In other words, this tool helps users identify the most suitable subreddit for their posts. When composing a new post, users will now see a 'Select a Community’ dropdown that suggests relevant subreddits based on the content of their post.

Reddit has also improved its guidance for users attempting to post in communities where they do not meet participation criteria. “We’ll now show users a community’s posting requirements (like account age or Karma) before they post. This helps avoid confusion and increases the number of successful posts,” said Reddit. Karma is a score that reflects a user’s reputation on the platform.

Further, with its ‘Post Insights’ feature, the social media platform will offer users more detailed analytics on their content’s performance. “Redditors can now see how well their posts are doing, including views, upvotes, shares, and more,” said the company. This allows Redditors to refine their content strategy based on audience response.

These updates are now live for all users on both mobile and desktop platforms globally.
