Qualcomm And Apple's Upcoming Chipsets May Use 2 Nm Node, Might Debut Next Year

According to a report from Wccftech, the 'SM8950' is likely to be a more powerful successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, and is likely to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 3.

Qualcomm's successors to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and Apple's A20 chipset may both be manufactured using a 2 nanometer node, according to a post from tipster 'Digital Chat Station' on Chinese social media application 'Weibo' on Tuesday.

The tipster said that Qualcomm's chips were categorised as 'SM8950' and 'SM8945'.

According to a report from Wccftech, the 'SM8950' is likely to be a more powerful successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, and is likely to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 3. While the 'SM8945' is likely to be a bit weaker despite using a 2nm node. It is expected to utilise a less efficient graphics processing unit and central processing unit with downclocked cores, according to the tech website.

Apple's 'A-20 Pro' Chipset

Apple's upcoming A20 chipset is likely to also use a 2nm node in its manufacuturing process and be called the 'A-20 Pro' according to Wccftech. This chip might power Apple's upcoming i-Phone 18 series of smartphones.

i-Phone 17 Series Leaked Details

The i-Phone 18 series' immediate predecessor, the i-Phone 17, expected to debut in September, may have improved display and camera features according to Bloomberg's Apple expert Mark Gurman.

Gurman mentioned that Apple will include a 'ProMotion' display to the base model iPhone 17 in his 'Power-On' Newsletter.

ProMotion is expected to give the iPhone 17's display a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The iPhone Pro and Pro Max models are the only ones that have a 120 Hz refresh rate as of now, compared to the standard refresh rate of 60 Hz used by Apple's base and Plus iPhones.

The iPhone 17 might also get some minor enhancements to its rear camera, according to Gurman.

The Pro versions are also set for improvements, "The Pro versions will receive significant improvements to their camera systems, including three rear cameras with 48-megapixel sensors," Gurman said.
