The 21st edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon will take place on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026. TMM is a World Athletics Gold Label Race, that is held every third Sunday of January. It is Asia's largest marathon and also the continent's biggest marathon in terms of mass participation.
The first-ever Mumbai marathon took place in 2004. The marathon has taken place every single year since 2004 except for 2021 and 2022 when it was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The race attracts people from all walks of life. It is also the place to spot some of India's biggest celebrities.
Here is everything you need to know about this year's Tata Mumbai Marathon.
Participation
The 2026 edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon will bring together a record-breaking 69,100 participants. There will be over 65,000 runners on-ground and over 3,70 people will be participating in virtual run.

Some of the elite male runners who are going to take the starting line-up on Sunday include Eritrean long-distance runner Merhawi Kesete, his compatriot Berhane Tesfay, Uganda's 2023 World Champion, Victor Kiplangat, South African Stephen Mokoka, and Ethiopians Bazezew Asmare and Tadu Abate Deme. Ethiopian, Tesfaye Demeke is also returning to get better ratings this year.
In the women's elite runners section, watch out for the Ethiopian quartet of Medina Deme Armino, Yeshi Chekole, Shure Demise and Zinah Senbeta.
Prize Pot
The 2026 Mumbai Marathon has a a prize pot of $390,238. The first three finishers in both men's and women's categories will receive $50000, $25000 and $15000. In addition, a reward of $15,000 is awaiting those who break the existing event records in their respective categories.
Philanthropy
Philanthropy has always been at the heart of every edition of the Mumbai Marathon. The funds raised during the event goes to causes like environment, mental health, education, empowering women, strengthening communities, improving health outcomes, caring for animals etc.
This year the funds raised has already surpassed last year's total fundraising, crossing Rs 53.7 crore before race day.
Route
Every year the race starts from the Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). This year, the route will feature the newly opened Mumbai Coastal Road, alongside the iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Speaking on the course, Mr Hugh Jones, Race Director, Tata Mumbai Marathon, said: "The coastal stretch adds a refreshing new dimension. It opens up the air, the views, and the experience for runners. While it remains a tough course, especially with its demanding descents, that challenge has always been part of its identity.”
International Event Ambassador
Andre De Grasse, a seven-time Olympic medalist, is the International Event Ambassador of the 2026 Tata Mumbai Marathon. Some of the previous International Event Ambassadors of Tata Mumbai Marathon have been Mo Farah, Katie Moon, Meb Keflezighi, Mary Kom, Yohan Blake e.t.c.
Ahead of the race De Grasse said: "Once you're on the start line, the hard work is already done. It's okay to feel nervous — that means you care. Trust yourself, go out there, give it everything you have, and make yourself proud."
