Bolsonaro Trip Means Three Brazilian Presidents in Four Days

(Bloomberg) -- Brazil will rotate through three different presidents over the next four days, as the country's top leaders balance a need to attract foreign investment with their duties at home.

First, President Jair Bolsonaro heads to Dallas on Tuesday evening, where he is due to receive the “Person of the Year 2019” award from the U.S.-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. In his stead, Vice-President Hamilton Mourao will take over, but only until Thursday, when he'll leave for a trip to Lebanon, China and Italy as part of his efforts to drum up investment in Brazil.

The next three in line for the presidency: House Speaker Rodrigo Maia, Senate President Davi Alcolumbre and Supreme Court President Jose Antonio Dias Toffoli are in New York this week. The politicians are due to talk to four major banks about Brazil's economic outlook, as well as attend the World Economy and Brazil event at the Harvard Club. Maia is due to return to Brazil on Thursday to run the country for a few hours after Mourao leaves and before Bolsonaro returns.
