(Bloomberg) -- The defense ministers from the so-called Five Eyes intelligence partnership discussed deepening their alliance over two days of meetings via video conference that ended Tuesday.
The ministers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.K. and the U.S. “reaffirmed their commitment to advance defense and security cooperation on matters of common interest to support and defend a stable, rules-based, global order, that is increasingly being challenged,” they said in a joint statement at the end of the meeting.
‘Five Eyes' Finance Ministers Have First Call to Talk Covid-19
The ministers pledged more frequent meetings of the grouping. Finance ministers from the alliance held a call earlier this week to discuss economic issues arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meetings come amid increasingly strained ties between Australia and China and rising global tension between Washington and Beijing.
