U.S. Defense Department Sets Domestic Travel Curbs for Personnel

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Department of Defense suspended all domestic travel for personnel and their families during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a statement.

The new restrictions apply to all DoD military and civilian personnel and their families assigned to DoD installations, facilities and surrounding areas within the U.S. and its territories, the department said in the statement. It applies to permanent change of station and temporary duty.

Civilian hiring at DoD facilities will be restricted to “local commuting” areas, and service members will be allowed local leave only. The new guidance takes effect from March 16 until May 11.

“Our understanding of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, and this guidance will be continuously evaluated as conditions warrant,” Deputy Secretary of Defense David Norquist said in the statement.
