(Bloomberg) -- The U.K. government is considering legally requiring public venues to protect their guests from terrorist attacks.
Security Minister James Brokenshire announced plans to introduce a law making owners and operators of public spaces take measures to keep visitors safe from attacks. The duty would be proportionate to the size and type of organization hosting events.
The U.K. has been a target for several terrorist incidents in the past few years, including two on London Bridge and the bombing of the Manchester Arena. The new law will be consulted on in the spring, the ministry said in an e-mailed press release.
“Our first priority is keeping the public safe and preventing more families from suffering the heartbreak of losing a loved one,” Brokenshire said.
