Nigeria Says 400,000 Displaced People to Vote in Northeast

(Bloomberg) -- At least 400,000 people in Nigeria will vote from displaced people's camps in parts of northeastern Borno state in elections this month, the Independent National Electoral Commission said.

Eight camps have been designated for the purpose ahead of the February 16 presidential and national legislative elections for people from districts affected by the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency, Mohammed Ibrahim, the Borno electoral commissioner, told reporters on Wednesday in the state capital, Maiduguri.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking re-election, is facing a strong challenge from Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition People's Democratic Party, in a race with more than 70 other parties. The Islamist insurgency is now in its ninth year.
