A further 866 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died in England, bringing the total of confirmed fatalities in hospitals to 8,114.
The patients were aged between 27 and 100 years old, NHS England said in an emailed statement. The highest number of deaths was in London at 249, followed by 229 in the Midlands.
