The month of May will come to an end on Saturday, following which banks will enter into a busy month of June. May saw as many as six weekday holidays, including major festivals like Buddha Purnima. As a result, physical bank branches were closed on these days, in addition to the scheduled weekend holidays.

Typically, the Reserve Bank of India announces the yearly holiday calendar in advance to allow the banks to make their arrangements. This also allows customers to plan their banking transactions and visits to nearest branches.

Is There A Bank Holiday On May 31?

For Saturdays, the RBI has set a fixed rule for all banks in India to avoid any confusion regarding their functionality. Typically, all banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. If a festival falls on the first or third Saturday, it may be declared a holiday. In the absence of any festival, only the second and fourth Saturdays are non-working.

As May 31 is the fifth Saturday, banks across India will remain open and operational on that day.

Customers can visit branches during regular working hours Saturday. All banking services, including deposits, withdrawals, and account-related requests, will be available.

Digital banking services like UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking will also function as usual. Specific regional events may affect services in some areas. Customers are advised to reach out to their banks to seek a clarification before planning any visits.

The bank holidays in May were observed on the following dates: May 1, May 9, May 12, May 16, May 26, and May 29. These holidays were based on regional festivals, state observances, and other significant occasions such as Rabindranath Tagore’s Jayanti on May 9.

The upcoming month of June will have fewer holidays.
