Honeymoon Murder: Raja Raghuvanshi's Body Recovered In Meghalaya, Wife Arrested In UP — Timeline Of Events

The case of the missing Indore couple in Meghalaya took an unexpected turn on Monday after Sonam, wife of deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, was arrested for her alleged role in the murder of her husband. Sonam Raghuvanshi, who had gone missing, surrendered before the Uttar Pradesh Police in Ghazipur district.

Sonam, for whom a search operation was going on, surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, according to a PTI report. She was subsequently arrested. Two others have also been arrested in connection with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

Raja and Sonam had gone to Meghalaya for their honeymoon following their wedding earlier this month. They left for Meghalaya on May 20 and arrived at Mawlakhiat village two days later. Things took an unexpected turn when their rented scooter was found abandoned on May 24, triggering a search operation for the couple. Raja’s body was discovered on June 2. The Meghalaya Police had been searching for Sonam until she surrendered in UP.

A Timeline Of How The Case Unfolded:

May 11: Indore-based Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam get married.

May 20: The couple leaves for Meghalaya for their honeymoon.

May 22: The couple arrived in Mawlakhiat village on a rented scooter. A tourist guide, Albert Pde, offered to take the couple to Nongriat, but they hired another guide, Bha Wansai.

May 22 night: They spent the night at the Shipra homestay in Nongriat and returned the next day.

May 23: Guide Pde saw the couple, accompanied by three men, climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23.

May 24: The scooter rented by the couple is found abandoned in the Sohrarim area, several kilometres from the parking lot at Mawlakhiat.

June 2: Raja’s decomposed body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong falls on June 2.

June 7: News surfaced that Pde has given his statement to the police about spotting the couple the day they went missing.

June 9: Sonam surrenders in UP’s Ghazipur. According to the police, the three arrested men have confessed that Sonam hired them to kill Raghuvanshi.
