The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and nearby districts for Wednesday, Mar. 12, warning people to avoid stepping out in the Sun during peak hours.

As many as six coastal districts of Maharashtra are on a yellow alert for today in view of the unprecedented hot and humid conditions. The weather agency warned that four districts of Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri, will be prone to heatwave today, particularly during peak sunny hours.

“Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in Konkan districts. Heat waves are likely to occur at isolated places in Konkan districts,” the IMD regional sub division in Mumbai, said. Today, north Konkan and south Konkan-Goa will likely experience maximum temperatures of between 35-39°C, which is marked ‘above normal' for these regions at this time of the year, the IMD said.
