BSE Bomb Threat Email Sparks Police Search, But No Impact On Operations
The police and bomb disposal teams responded immediately and searched the exchange building, sources told NDTV Profit, adding that no suspicious objects or explosives were found during the operation.
The BSE building at Dalal Street received a bomb threat on Tuesday via email from an account identifying itself as “Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan,” according to people with knowledge of the matter. The email claimed that RDX-based IEDs had been planted on the premises and were set to explode at 3 p.m., the people said.
Sources told NDTV Profit that police and bomb disposal teams responded immediately and searched the exchange building, adding that authorities said no suspicious objects or explosives were found during the operation.
An FIR has been registered at MRA Marg Police Station, the people said. The exchange informed all relevant agencies about the incident and confirmed that normal operations continued without disruption.
People in the know said the building was scanned as a precaution, adding that such threats are not unusual in the current geopolitical climate. The functioning of the exchange has not been impacted, and all authorities have been informed, they said.
"We have a protocol in place to deal with these situations, and it was duly followed. All the scanning was done as well," one of the persons quoted above mentioned.
Back in May this year, both NSE and BSE had to actively monitor the environment for any kind of cyber threats, as per several people in the know who NDTV Profit spoke to. This was being done during the India-Pakistan tensions. At the time, the exchanges had restricted foreign users' access to their websites.
