Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the seventh straight session on Monday. They were also net sellers in index futures and stock options, while they bought index options and stock futures.
FIIs In Cash Market
Foreign portfolio investors sold stocks worth Rs 4,892.8 crore. Domestic institutional investors have been buyers for the 19th consecutive session and bought stocks worth Rs 8,066.1 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
So far in January, the FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 23,615 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.
According to the NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit, FPIs have offloaded stock worth Rs 2,156.7 crore in the stock exchanges until Jan 10.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Jan. 25 expiry, the value of outstanding positions—also called open interest in the derivatives segment—has increased for the FIIs in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 15%:85%.
The FIIs bought index options worth Rs 28,047.95 crore and stock futures worth Rs 2,247.3 crore. They sold index futures worth Rs 1,419.04 crore and stock options worth Rs 3,425.81 crore.
FII Contract Value
The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market increased by Rs 291.01 crore at the end of January expiry from Rs 31,827.7 crore a day earlier to Rs 32,118.71 crore.
F&O Cues
The Nifty January futures were down by 1.42% to 23,168.05 at a premium of 82 points, with the open interest up by 2.39%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Jan. 16 expiry series indicated most activity at 26,500 call strikes, with the 22,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors rose to 1.21 from 1.19 in the previous session.
