Sensex, Nifty End Little Changed; Small Caps Outperform

Indian equities ended little changed after another volatile session for the second straight day. Benchmark indices however ended with a positive bias.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 91 points higher at 49,584 while the NSE Nifty 50 index ended just below the mark of 14,600 - ended 0.2% at 14,595.

Among sectoral indices, the FMCG and Pharma indices were the outperformers in today's session. The Pharma index ended 0.8% higher while the FMCG Index too gained a similar quantum. The Metal index was the top laggard in today's session, ending 1% lower. The I.T. index staged a recovery from the day's low, ending little changed after falling as much as 2.5%.

Most other sectoral indices ended flat.

Broader markets were mixed in today's session. The Midcap index ended nearly unchanged while the Smallcap index gained 0.6%.

The India Volatility Index ended 1.1% lower at 23.

894 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 980 declined.

  • Reliance Industries' 1,800 Call: Premium up 11.6% to Rs 178. The contract has shed 5,750 shares in Open Interest.

Brokerages Raise Price Targets On Infosys After Q3 Results

Indian equities have begun the weekly options expiry session on a subdued note, opening with a negative bias on the benchmark indices.

The S&P BSE Sensex opened 60 points lower at 49,432 while the NSE Nifty 50 index fell 15 points at the start of trade to 14,550.

Most sectoral indices too have opened flat, other than the Nifty I.T. index, which has declined 0.7% in the early minutes of trading. The Media index is up 0.5% while the Auto index has gained 0.3%.

Broader markets have opened with modest gains this morning. The Midcap index is up 0.2% while the Smallcap index has gained 0.4% at the start of trade.
