Indian stocks regained momentum and are set for a record close.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.19 percent to 41,939 and the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.24 percent to 12,359. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index rose 0.33 percent.

Blue Dart

  • Stock rose as much as 9.7 percent to Rs 2,666.
  • Trading volume was more than six times its 20-day average.

  • Stock fell as much as 5.2 percent to Rs 127.65.

Shares of Yes Bank extended declines for the third consecutive trading session. The stock fell as much as 13.2 percent to Rs 36.55.

The Relative Strength Index was below 30, indicating that the stock may be overbought.

IndusInd Bank Q3 Results: Profit Misses Estimates, Asset Quality Improves

Shares of TV18 Broadcast fluctuated between gains and losses to trade 2.2 percent higher at Rs 25.40 after the company announced its December quarter results.

Shares of Bandhan Bank fell as much as 1.9 percent to Rs 504.10 after the company announced its December quarter results.

Indian stocks fluctuated between gains and losses and traded little changed.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.07 percent to 41,889 and the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.05 percent to 12,344. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index rose 0.26 percent.

The inflation as measured by the wholesale price index stood at 2.59 percent in December against 0.58 percent in the previous month, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

About 15 lakh shares of Crompton Greaves changed hands in a large trade, Bloomberg data showed. Buyers and sellers were not known immediately.

Nifty’s 12,300 put option contract was among the most active Nifty option contracts on National Stock Exchange.

Premium on the contract, which is set to expire on Jan. 16, fell 7.8 percent to Rs 42.90. Over 14.83 lakh shares were added to the open interest which stood at over 34.41 lakh shares.

The government today appointed Michael Patra as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years.

Patra will replace Viral Acharya, who left office on July 23.

Shares of Venky’s India rose as much as 6.2 percent, the most since Dec. 19, 2019, to Rs 1,833.50.

The stock halted a two-day losing streak. Of the shares traded, 41 percent were at the ask price and 38 percent were at the bid, according to Bloomberg data.

Shares of Adani Green Energy hit their lower circuit of 5 percent for the third consecutive trading session. Prior to Jan. 10, the stock had risen for nine consecutive trading sessions.

The stock declined 5.5 percent in the past five days and advanced 50 percent in the past 30 days, according to Bloomberg data.

Shares of JSW Steel extended gains for the second consecutive trading session. The stock rose as much as 1 percent to Rs 281.50.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal has directed the Enforcement Directorate and Serious Fraud Investigation Office to verify if JSW Steel is protected from Bhushan Steel and Power Ltd.’s past criminal liabilities. (Read the full story here)

The NCLAT also directed the agencies to file an affidavit to confirm whether JSW Steel would be covered under the newly added section 32A of the Insolvency Code and provide reasons if no such immunity is granted.

Shares of Bharti Airtel rose nearly 1 percent intraday to Rs 472.65.

About 10 lakh shares of the company changed hands in a large trade, Bloomberg data showed. Buyers and sellers were not known immediately.

Of the shares traded, 37 percent were at the ask price and 49 percent were at the bid, according to Bloomberg data.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.2 percent to 41,774 and the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.16 percent to 12,309.80. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell 0.07 percent.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. About 873 stocks advanced and 546 shares declined on National Stock Exchange.

Eight out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE traded lower, led by the NSE Nifty Bank Index’s 0.34 percent fall. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty Metal Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 0.45 percent.

Indian stocks are set for a positive start.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.28 percent to 41,977 during the pre-market trade and the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.29 percent to 12,365.90
