India's stock benchmarks advanced, aided by broad-based gains in utilities, power, and realty stocks.
The Sensex gained 0.31% to 59,720.39 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50 rose 0.36% to 17,719.75 on the NSE. Among the Nifty 50 constituents, 36 stocks rose while 14 declined.
JSW Steel Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., Tata Steel Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd., and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. were the top gainers, while Bajaj Finance Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., Bajaj Finserv Ltd., Nestle India Ltd., and Tech Mahindra Ltd. were the top losers on Nifty 50.
The broader indices almost mirrored their larger peers with the mid-cap and the small-cap indices gaining 0.45% and 0.40%, respectively. Eighteen of the 19 sectoral measures complied by BSE Ltd. gained with utilities and realty gaining the most, over 2%.
The market breadth is skewed in favour of the bulls. About 1,807 stocks rose, 1,471 fell, and 136 remained unchanged.
