Maruti Suzuki’s Sales Jump 19.5% In April, Exports Fall 29%

India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s sales in April grew the most in three months, largely on the back of its compacts and utility vehicles.

The company sold 151,215 units in April, a growth of 19.5 percent over the same month last year, according to its filing to stock exchanges. Its domestic sales rose 23.4 per cent but exports fell 29.4 per cent compared to April last year.

Maruti Suzuki's passenger car segment grew 26.6 percent. The company sold 63,584 units of compact vehicles, a strong growth of 39 percent. The segment comprises the Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, DZIRE and Dzire Tour models.

The company's utility vehicle sales rose 28.6 percent in April over the year-ago month. The company sells popular models like the Vitara Brezza and S-Cross in this segment.

Sales of Alto and WagonR, which make up the mini category, rose 21.9 percent compared to the corresponding month last year.

The company, which forayed into the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment with Super Carry, sold 411 units in this category.
