Auto sales are expected to continue the momentum in July for most of the segments, driven by the strong rural demand.
Hero MotoCorp Ltd.'s sales grew 9 percent over the year-ago month to 6.79 lakh units, due to underlying demand growth.
“We are confident of carrying the growth trajectory forward and expect to grow at double-digit in the upcoming festive season,” said Chairman Pawan Munjal in a release acompanying the filing.
Going ahead, the automaker has lined up multiple new product launches, ahead of the festive season, such as the Xtreme 200R motorcycle and the 125cc scooters.
Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. sold 47199 units last month, an increase of 13 percent from the sales clocked in 2016, according to its stock exchange notification.
July sales highlights (YoY):
Passenger vehicle sales fell 6 percent to 19,781 units.
Utility vehicles sales fell 7 percent to 17,879 units.
Commercial vehicles sales rose 28 percent to 19,284 units.
Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales rose 32 percent to 866 units.
Three wheeler sales rose 47 percent to 5,540 units.
Total domestic sales rose 12 percent to 44,605 units.
Total exports rose 31 percent to 2,594 units.
Farm equipment sales highlights (YoY):
Overall farm equipment sales rose 20 percent to 18,957 units.
Farm equipment sales in domestic market rose 21 percent to 17,804 units.
Exports fell 4 percent to 1,153 units.
Shares of the Mumbai-based automaker swung between gains and losses after the announcement.
Maruti Suzuki sales declined marginally last month. This was the first sales decline since December 2016.
The country's largest automaker sold 1.64 lakh units last month, a decline of 0.6 percent from the sales clocked in July 2017, according to its stock exchange notification.
July sales highlights (YoY):
Sales in mini segment vehicles fell 10.9 percent to 37,710 units.
Sales in Compact segment rose 17.8 percent to 74,373 units.
Sales in Utility vehicles segment fell 4..9 percent to 24,505 units.
Sales in Vans segment rose 0.5 percent to 15,791 units.
Overall domestic sales rose 0.1 percent to 1.54 lakh units.
Overall exports fell 9.9 percent to 10,219 units.
Shares of Maruti Suzuki fell as much as 2.3 percent to Rs 9,301.40 apiece after the announcement. The stock was the second-worst performer on Sensex.
Tractor maker Escorts Ltd. sold 5,610 tractors in July, an increase of 3.5 percent from the corresponding month previous year, the company said in its regulatory filing.
