Ashok Leyland Ltd. reported a 8 percent decline in overall sales last month, according to a statement filed with exchanges.
The Chennai-based commercial vehicle manufacturer sold 9,071 units compared to 9,875 units during the corresponding period last year.
The truck and bus maker saw its light commercial vehicle sales rise more than 20 percent in May, while medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales declined by close to 20 percent, over the same period last year.
Pre-buying before April, when the new emission norms kicked in, is said to weigh on monthly sales, specially for bigger vehicles, since the price difference is substantial.
Shares of the automotive firm ended the day of trade 3.7 percent lower at Rs 90.10. The stock fell as much as 4.66 percent intra-day, the most since November 21, 2016.
